Metal and Finish Specification

Selecting appropriate candidate metals for a project is dependant on the desired service life, aesthetic appearance requirements, the site's corrosion potential, and aspects of the design. Our consultants understand these considerations. We provide in-depth knowledge of the relevant industry specifications and experience in reviewing and preparing descriptive text for project specifications.

Finishes may not be covered by industry specifications or the descriptions may be too general to meet the needs of an architectural application's aesthetic requirements. We can suggest potential finishes or finish combinations to meet aesthetic and performance requirements. Assistance can be provided in obtaining finish samples and preparing descriptions of these finishes for specifications.

Metal Handling

Proper metal handling can prevent costly finish damage during fabrication, storage and shipping. Our consultants can review metal separation and handling procedures to reduce the possibility of scratching, embedded iron or steel, surface discoloration, corrosive chemical exposure, and other problems.

Applying Finishes

Our consultants are recognized international experts on the application and use of stainless steel finishes in architecture. The text for the Specialty Steel Industry of North America's (SSINA) Special Finishes brochure was prepared by TMR Architectural Metals Consulting. We are also preparing the text for SSINA's website based brochure on mill polished finishes is expected to be launched in late 2003. As consultants for the Nickel Development Institute, we regularly provide workshops on stainless steel finishes and contributed to the upcoming revision of the National Association of Architectural Metal Manufacturers' (NAAMM) publication AMP 503 Finishes for Stainless Steel.
